Delhi Election 2025: Arvind Kejriwal Accuses Election Commission of Bias, BJP Hits Back

On the final day of campaigning for the highly anticipated Delhi Assembly election, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, accusing him of surrendering to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in exchange for a post-retirement position.

At a press conference on Monday, the former Delhi Chief Minister alleged that the Election Commission had become completely compromised, favoring the BJP instead of ensuring a free and fair election.

Kejriwal’s Allegations Against CEC

“Today, the way the Election Commission has surrendered before the BJP, it seems as if the Election Commission does not exist anymore,” Kejriwal said. “This raises a serious question—what kind of post has been promised to Rajiv Kumar after his retirement? Governor, President, or something else?”

Appealing to the CEC, Kejriwal added, “I request Rajiv Kumar Ji with folded hands—do your duty, give up the greed for a post. Do not destroy the country’s democracy at the end of your career.”

Election Commission vs Arvind Kejriwal

The AAP leader has been at odds with the Election Commission throughout the campaign, accusing BJP’s candidate Parvesh Verma of distributing cash in the New Delhi constituency. Kejriwal has also criticized the poll panel for allegedly failing to take action against such violations.

Earlier, the Election Commission had sought an explanation from Kejriwal for his controversial remark accusing the BJP government in Haryana of “poisoning” the Yamuna water supply to Delhi. In his response, he defended his statement, calling it an urgent public health concern.

On Sunday, Kejriwal also urged the Election Commission to deploy special observers in his New Delhi constituency, alleging BJP-sponsored “hooliganism.”

BJP’s Counterattack

The BJP dismissed Kejriwal’s accusations as a sign of desperation. “He has sensed defeat in the February 5 elections, which is why his language and mental condition have changed,” a BJP spokesperson said.

Kejriwal, who is seeking a third consecutive term as Delhi’s Chief Minister, is facing a tough battle against BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit in the New Delhi constituency.

Delhi Election 2025: The Final Showdown

The Delhi Assembly elections will take place on February 5, with results scheduled to be announced on February 8. While AAP is aiming for a historic third term, the BJP is determined to end AAP’s reign and reclaim the national capital after more than 25 years.

With the election drawing to a close, all eyes are on Delhi to see whether Kejriwal’s aggressive campaign will resonate with voters or if the BJP can make a comeback.
