Delhi CM Rekha Gupta responds to Atishi’s ‘broken promise’ charge
New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday countered allegations by former CM Atishi, who accused the newly formed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of breaking election promises.
Speaking at a press conference, Gupta defended her government’s actions, highlighting the immediate measures taken after assuming office. “The Congress ruled for 15 years and the AAP ruled for 13. Instead of looking at what they did, how can they raise questions on one day of ours?” Gupta remarked.
She emphasized that her government acted swiftly on its first day by clearing the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which was previously blocked by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). “We gave a benefit of Rs. 10 lakh to the people of Delhi on the first day itself,” she added.
Addressing Atishi’s criticism, Gupta stated, “They don’t have any right to question us… We will worry about Delhi now, and Delhi will get its rights under the leadership of PM Modi.” She further alleged that the opposition was apprehensive about the upcoming Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report, which she claimed could expose discrepancies from previous administrations.
Atishi, the former Delhi CM and senior AAP leader, released a video accusing the BJP of failing to fulfill a key electoral promise. “BJP had promised the women of Delhi that in the first cabinet meeting itself, they would pass the scheme in which women of Delhi would be getting ₹2,500. The new CM Rekha Gupta and her cabinet ministers took oath, and by evening, at 7 PM, the first cabinet meeting took place. All the women of Delhi were expecting that scheme to be passed. But BJP has already started breaking their promises on Day 1 itself,” Atishi alleged. She further accused the BJP of having “made up their mind to cheat the people of Delhi.”
Rekha Gupta, who won the Delhi Assembly election from Shalimar Bagh, was sworn in as the fourth woman chief minister of Delhi on Thursday. She will oversee several key portfolios, including General Administration, Services, Finance, Revenue, Women and Child Development, Land and Building, Information and Public Relations, Vigilance, Administrative Reforms, Planning, and other departments not allocated to any other ministry.
As political tensions rise, the debate over election promises and governance is expected to continue in the coming weeks.
